King Covered in Ketchup –
Reinforcing the Rule
Equipment: This sheet and some colouring pencils.
Instructions: Ask your child (with help if needed) to read all the KE and KI words below, remind them to listen carefully to the second letter. Now they must choose one word from each group to come up with a combination picture to help them remember that it’s E and I words that go with K, of course they may just wish to do their own King Covered in Ketchup and that is fine. Have fun drawing and discussing how images and understanding help us to work out spelling patterns when our memory might fail us.
Some children like Kittens in Kennels, others like Kites on Keyrings. We look forward to seeing your combinations of KE and KI words – post them on Instagram, we’d love to see them!
